I. LOVE. BERNADETTE FOX. A woman who is so aggravated by Seattle, and people, that she refuses to leave her house. Extreme, yes, but also so relatable. You will laugh out loud and fall in love with the Fox family. I also want to visit Antartica now--who knew? One of my most favorite reads, it's even better the second and third time.
“Hello, can I help you with something? If not, please step aside because I'm about to kick the shit out of life.”
Synopsis
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle--and people in general--has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands. A trip to the end of the earth is problematic.
To find her mother, Bee compiles email messages, official documents, secret correspondence--creating a compulsively readable and touching novel about misplaced genius and a mother and daughter's role in an absurd world.
“I don't know if it's possible to feel everything all at once, so much that you think you're going to burst...I felt so full of love for everything. But at the same time, I felt so hung out to dry there, like nobody could ever understand. I felt so alone in this world, and so loved at the same time.” ”
The movie comes out October 19, 2018. Cate Blanchett, Kristin Wiig, Troian Bellisario!! I cannot wait to compare them!
