Simon vs The Homo Sapiens Agenda

By: Becky Albertalli BUY BOOK HERE

Simon Spier's journey hit close to home for me. I have an openly gay older brother who didn't come out until he was 22 years old. It has been a wonderful challenge for our family. The emotions and experiences that Simon has connected me to my brothers struggle. It's a wonderfully needed perspective on the inner thoughts of telling those you love that you are gay. I think every person needs to read this. I was very emotional during his story because it felt a lot like my family's story. We need more understanding and empathy and acceptance. This book was everything to me!

“Sometimes it seems like everyone knows who I am, except me.”
"I've been thinking a lot about why I haven't come out yet, maybe a part of me wants to hold on to who I've always been, just a little longer."

Synopsis

Sixteen-year-old and not-so-openly gay Simon Spier prefers to save his drama for the school musical. But when an email falls into the wrong hands, his secret is at risk of being thrust into the spotlight. Now Simon is actually being blackmailed: if he doesn’t play wingman for class clown Martin, his sexual identity will become everyone’s business. Worse, the privacy of Blue, the pen name of the boy he’s been emailing, will be compromised.

With some messy dynamics emerging in his once tight-knit group of friends, and his email correspondence with Blue growing more flirtatious every day, Simon’s junior year has suddenly gotten all kinds of complicated. Now, change-averse Simon has to find a way to step out of his comfort zone before he’s pushed out—without alienating his friends, compromising himself, or fumbling a shot at happiness with the most confusing, adorable guy he’s never met.

“White shouldn't be the default, any more than straight should be the default. There shouldn't even be a default.”

The movie comes out March 16, 2018. I'll be there opening night!
