Let's get personal. I finished listening to this book in the midst of a dark spot in my life a few months ago. There was a particular part that stopped me in my tracks. "Your dream is worth fighting for, and while you’re not in control of what life throws at you, you are in control of the fight. You do not have permission to quit." I have had things thrown my way this year that have been heavy. I have felt my "fight power" diminishing and this replenished me for a few more rounds. I promise you this, there is something inspiring in it for everyone. The rest of the title of this book is "Stop Believing the Lies About Who You Are so You Can Become Who You Were Meant to Be". I SUPER SUPER loved the chapters on judgement and gossip. She delves into the many lies in our society and culture that we tell every day--to ourselves, our spouses, or friends, our neighbors, our family. I would insert the entire book here if it would convince you to read it but--listen to my advice and listen to this book immediately. Reading it is good too--but Rachel (the author) is also the reader of this book and hearing her say the words she wrote is much more POWERFUL.
“Know this one great truth: you are in control of your own life. You get one and only one chance to live, and life is passing you by. Stop beating yourself up, and dang it, stop letting others do it too. Stop accepting less than you deserve. Stop buying things you can’t afford to impress people you don’t even really like. Stop eating your feelings instead of working through them. Stop buying your kids’ love with food, or toys, or friendship because it’s easier than parenting. Stop abusing your body and your mind. Stop! Just get off the never-ending track.”
